Job Description
As the Purchasing Manager, you will lead strategic procurement efforts across multiple spend categories, with a strong focus on cost optimization, supplier performance, and inventory efficiency. You will be responsible for developing and managing purchasing budgets, sourcing cost-effective and reliable suppliers, and negotiating favorable terms to support the company's profitability.
A key part of your role will be to ensure the timely delivery of quality components required for production, enabling the team to consistently meet weekly output goals. In addition, you will implement strategies to maximize inventory turnover, reduce obsolescence, and maintain inventory levels within budgeted targets. Your ability to balance cost, quality, and delivery while driving supply chain improvements will be critical to the success of our remanufacturing operations.
You will also play a vital role in developing and mentoring the purchasing team. This includes fostering a culture of continuous improvement, providing training on procurement best practices, and supporting the professional growth of team members to enhance overall department capability and performance.
Essential Responsibilities: - Develop and implement purchasing policies, procedures, and best practices to support organizational goals and ensure compliance across all procurement activities.
- Negotiate and manage supplier contracts, ensuring alignment with legal, financial, and operational requirements.
- Monitor supplier performance and risk through metrics and scorecards, focusing on cost control, quality standards, and on-time delivery.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and supply chain optimization using data-driven analysis and market insights.
- Oversee inventory purchasing to ensure alignment with production schedules, budget targets, and working capital goals.
- Utilize the Syteline ERP system to manage procurement processes, track material flow, and ensure data integrity.
- Generate and analyze purchasing reports, including spend analysis, purchase price variance, delivery performance, and forecast accuracy to support strategic decisions.
- Lead, coach, and develop purchasing team members to drive accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with production, planning, and inventory teams to maintain a consistent and timely supply of materials.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in procurement processes to adapt to business needs and changing market conditions.
- Integrate the Syteline ERP system material planning requirements with key strategic partners to streamline planning alignment of their delivery of components to support the production schedule requirements while achieving inventory budget targets.
- Drive ongoing improvements in procurement strategy, reporting, and analytics to support operational and financial efficiency.
Requirements: - College degree in business, materials management, operations management, engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
- Direct experience of 5 or more years in purchasing and procurement in a manufacturing environment managing a supply base of greater than 50 suppliers
- Supervisory experience
- Working knowledge of project management principles and practices
- Working knowledge of all laws and regulations relating to procurement and contracts
- Strong knowledge of purchasing and supply chain systems, LEAN principles of planning and MRP/ERP systems often required
- Strong financial acumen
- High competency level in MS Office applications
